Zion National Park App
Project Background
I designed this app as part of my digital product experiences class, in which we chose a national park to design an app for. We had a great amount of flexibility in what we wanted to focus on for this project, and it was quite a fun yet challenging experience.
The User
For this Zion National Park app, the intended audience I chose to focus on was individuals and families who have not been to Zion before who want to learn more about the park and what things they need to plan for their trip.
The Process
I started this project by looking at the information already available for Zion National Park, and noticed how much information there is for all kinds of users, I also looked at other apps in the outdoor category, and after gathering the information I thought I would need I started brainstorming, creating a mood board/style guide and sketching out possible solutions.

Style Guide/Mood Board
My style guide, color choices, and image elements come mainly from looking at photos of the actual park, and I wanted the theme to somehow give the user a feel of the park.

Outcome & Lessons
This project was a great learning experience, especially since I had never worked on designing an app for a product/place that had so much information for the user.
My main objectives while working on this project were making an app that is:
• Interactive
• Intuitive
• Engaging
• Provides the user key information they need to plan a trip
I feel like I was able to accomplish these while keeping the app's design simple, by keeping the user in mind when choosing which information to include, adding images and videos to keep the app interactive and engaging, and using icons and navigation styles many users are already familiar with.

I'm quite happy with the outcome of this project, but if I could re-do my project from the start, and I had the time and resources, I would have done real user research to know what my intended audience really wants to see, and I would have focused on adding those features. Overall, I'm grateful for this learning experience and the practice I got using Figma as my main designing and prototyping tool.
