Overview
Have you ever tried to learn a new language and use an app to help with vocabulary? This app has a lot of useful vocabulary for missionaries, but sometimes it was hard for them to know what to focus on learning first, and it was not possible to add custom words like slang to the app so missionaries could study as well.
Understanding The Problem
Missionaries want an easier way to find and manage the words they added as well as words from lessons they want to review, and they want to add custom words on Embark and be able to easily find them.
The User
Missionaries learning a new language for their missions, or with previous experience with their mission language
The Process
Started by understanding the problem in depth by doing user interviews before starting on the designs, then went through the design process from sketching to prototyping, receiving feedback at different stages of the process from teammates and managers. Once the prototype was ready, scheduled user testing interviews where we did unmoderated studies and also moderated studies. Finished the project by writing the hand-off documentation.
Outcome & Lessons
This was a great learning experience of how the UX process goes in a real-world company. I got to know what it’s like to work with a project manager, researchers, and developers and do real usability studies and user interviews.
