Problem Statement

How might we help low-intent viewers discover new content on the gaming tab?

Low-intent viewers include casual gamers, people browsing, and those who don’t frequently consume gaming video content.

How do I start?

I wanted to understand the problem better so I reviewed past research on gaming video users, their watch preferences, etc. I also attended two live research sessions on short-form videos and why people like to watch them. Then, I summarized my learnings into a research synthesis and generated the problem statement.

Brainstorming: I led a virtual brainstorming session using figjam to help me visualize possible outcomes or solutions to the problem, and also help define the audience type I would be focusing on

Process

Sketching: After gaining more understanding of the problem and doing the brainstorming session, I started sketching to visualize potential solutions

Wireframes: After sketching, I transferred my designs to Figma to make some simple wireframes of the three main concepts.

Feedback Session: I got to share my design documents in a weekly critique session. Here is an example of things I added to prepare the Figma document, and some of the feedback I got.

Choosing a Concept & Iterating: After receiving feedback from designers and developers, I chose a path to go with and iterated on it a couple times.

What did I learn?

I got to experience working on a design team at a large company and learn how to work with design systems.

I had the opportunity to collaborate in-person for the most part as which was awesome.

I learned so much about taking ownership of my projects and how to collaborate with designers, product managers and developers, and it was overall a great learning experience for me.
